Keswick and Braithwaite Tennis Club Report Week 21-27 May.
Keswick’s quartet of tennis teams are all currently high in the league tables in their respective divisions of the West Cumbria League despite the fact that only our Men’s First Team had any success in their match his week. On Tuesday evening they played away against Harrington, a club struggling to keep afloat in adverse circumstances and lowly placed in the league. The Keswick team, captained by Dougal Atack, partnered by Rob Saxton and supported by second couple Rob Moir and Mike Green were on good form and dropped only one set during the match running out winners 7-1.
Meanwhile, our second men’s team was in action at Braithwaite on the all-weather courts in a closely contested match against a lively Lorton quartet. Both of Keswick’s pairings took their opposite numbers to tie breaks in their final sets and both narrowly lost them to concede the match 3-5. It was very close, no more than a couple of shots in it and with a little more luck could very easily have gone the other way.
Both our ladies team’s struggled this week against opponents at the top of their divisions and neither managed to produce a win. Keswick’s ladies’ first team played a formidable full strength Cockermouth team who, on this form, at mid season, look set to take the league title.
Our second ladies’ team also ran into stiff opposition and despite having the home advantage could make little impression on Maryport 1 who are currently dominating the second division and look a good bet for the division championship and promotion.
